The Benefits of Electric Indoor Wheelchairs

The Benefits of Electric Indoor Wheelchairs

Electric indoor wheelchairs are a boon to wheelchair users. They add power, speed and comfort to the experience. Indoor electric wheelchairs are for people who have absolutely no mobility, even at home. However, indoor wheelchairs cannot be used outdoors, except in the garden or lawn. There is a huge variety of indoor wheelchair brands to choose from. They are provided with several options and can be custom designed to suit individual needs. There are also plenty of styles and colors to choose from.

Certain guidelines must be met while providing an indoor electric wheelchair to a person. The person should be suffering from a defect of the locomotor system or from chronic heart or lung conditions that make walking impossible. The person should be unable to effectively self-propel a manual wheelchair indoors. The wheelchair user should also be able to achieve a fair level of independence in the home because of the electric indoor wheelchair. The need of this chair should be permanent or at least long term.

There are also some dual electric wheelchairs, which are fit for both indoor as well as outdoor use. Some criteria required for this kind of electric wheelchair, in addition to the guidelines for indoor electric wheelchairs include the following:

1. Users must have adequate field and acuity of vision to be safe on public roads.

2. Users should have the ability to comply with DVLC requirements for motor vehicle drivers concerning epilepsy and other causes of loss of consciousness.

3. Users should not require accessories, modifications or special seating outside of the range supplied by the powered chair manufacturer.

4. Users should comply with the manufacturer's recommended occupant weight limit for the chair.

5. Users should have a residential environment, which is compatible with the use of a dual-purpose powered chair, and which includes a suitable storage area and power supply for battery charging.

6. Users should have a local outside environment that is accessible by a dual-purpose powered chair and compatible with its use.

7. Users should have the capacity to derive significant improvement in their independence and quality of life through use of a dual-purpose powered chair.

Electric Bikes: Mini or Mountain?

Electric Bikes: Mini or Mountain?

Now that we have choices when it comes to purchasing an electric bicycle it is important to make a check list of our biking habits to figure out which bike meets our needs and usage demands. There are basically four main categories to be familiar with: mountain, folding mountain, mini and mini-folding.

Before looking at the products and falling in love with one which might be the wrong one for your usage, you should jot down your present and anticipated biking habits. It is important to be realistic and as accurate as you can be in assessing your usage. It is important to think of all your short trips, your commutes, trail rides and club events. Also, reflect on your future uses such as job changes, new coffee shop in the neighborhood, change in schools, modified exercise routine or training program.

Mini Features

The Mini is short to the ground with small wheels for easy maneuvering. The folding version typically folds with an instant pull-up folding system. With the battery attached most of the minis are super lightweight and weigh around 35 pounds. The maximum weight is more restricted with a mini but is not a big negative for most active riders. The weight restrict can be 220 pounds or maybe a little more.

Mountain Features

The mountain are similar to standard mountain bikes. Popular mountain types have a 7 gear and shifter system, aluminum alloy frame, 26 inch wheels, and adjustable seat. The added features include brushless hub motor, around 300 watts, and battery pack and charger. Most weigh around 50 pounds including the battery pack. Rider weight restrictions top out at 350 pounds. The folding version will also be light weight and folds in half making it easy to store and to transport when taking a car or riding on mass transit.

Compare Riding Experience

Both have models that allow for easy folding. The mountain folding bike folds easily in half for easy transporting. Both folding bikes are great for RV'ers, camping, commuting, college students, and seniors counting on the backup of power assisted riding. Both bikes can be carried on mass transit or into the coffee shop. The mini is a fun ride, safe through metro traffic or congested campus commutes. Mountain e-bikes have larger tires for better balance for trails and harder to ride surfaces.

Either ride gives you three ways to enjoy riding bicycles. One way is to just pedal no battery pack- results in a fun ride in either version. The second is to ride power assisted. You can pedal and the battery will also kick in to provide additional power. This gives a person extra options. The inexperienced biker can use this mode to build up stamina and energy to provide a basis for riding. People quit riding because they tire too easily from being out of shape- they maybe never reach the fun and scenic bike trail because they are too tired. The power assist makes riding fun again and provides the desired amount of exercise. The third way to ride is to just ride and let the battery do its thing. The electric bicycles have about a 20 mile range and then you have to pedal.

No matter which bike fits your usage needs, you can be confident that the bikes will get you to your designation whether it is school, work, and the restaurant fresh and invigorated. The green ride is the ride of the future just get the bike that fits your usage today and tomorrow.

Electric Range or Gas Range- Which One is Better?

Electric Range or Gas Range- Which One is Better?

With the many modern improvements in technology, kitchen appliances have greatly changed over time, becoming more and more efficient. In general, becoming undeniably better. However, there is still a debate between old versus new when it comes to gas ranges and electric ranges. Which one is really better? There are advantages and disadvantages to each. Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the truth about ranges may well be all in the experience of the cook.

Let us first take a look at a gas range. Gas is expensive, yet the burner on a stove cooks food so well. The flame can be adjusted for a low simmer or a boil. If the power goes out, you can still use it. The heat from the oven fills the room when you open it. If there is anything wrong, there are tell tale signs that warns us. The smell of gas or out of control flames, or no flame at all are fair warnings that something is wrong. Food can be cooked with ease over the fire. The trouble could be that sometimes the pilot light may go out, and we have to light a match or get a lighter to start it up again. There is always a chance of a fire.

An electric range is very different. Electricity costs money, too, but not as much as gas. You can adjust the temperature pretty specifically on the over or burners. The very accurate temperature control is a plus. Lowering the time it takes to cook things helps keep the nutrients in, and saves us time. Many coil style burners will turn bright red to warn us of the intense heat. Unfortunately, if the power goes out, so does the stove. The warmth from the oven may not be as intense as the flame of a gas range, but that can be good or bad. Newer, flat surface version of the electric range allow for very easy cleaning. There is a much less chance of a fire developing with this type of range.

It really depends on the person, but I'm a fan of the electric range. It costs less to maintain, has better temperature control, and is easier to clean. Better control leads to better food. Less time spent cleaning is a great benefit to my schedule. Electric ranges are also more convenient and environmentally safe than gas ranges. I have plenty of friends, however, who disagree. Fortunately there are both gas and electric stoves, so that everyone has an opportunity to choose the option that works best for them.

Gas Vs Electric - Efficient Natural Gas is More Popular Than Electric Due to Costs and Comfort

Gas Vs Electric - Efficient Natural Gas is More Popular Than Electric Due to Costs and Comfort

Choosing which type of furnace and appliances would best suit a home can be a time consuming and confusing task. In order to choose whether a gas or an electric furnace should be selected, several questions should be answered. First and foremost is the question of whether natural gas is available. If it is not, the alternative of propane may be worth checking.

In most areas, there is no issue with acquiring natural gas. Natural gas furnaces are typically the most affordable choice, however in some regions, cost of gas has been on the rise. By checking with local natural gas distributors for average prices, a cost of use estimate based on family size and anticipated consumption would reveal important information to the decision process.

Even though gas furnaces and appliances are equipped with exhaust stacks or pipes which dispel harmful fumes such as carbon monoxide, natural gas (or propane) still has some aspect of an odor. Another consideration is maintenance. Gas furnaces should be professionally inspected on a yearly basis. An inspection for cracks, tiny holes, or leaks will ensure that carbon monoxide or gas leakage will not be an issue for the family or home.

Electric heating and appliances have pros and cons as well. A major benefit regarding electric is the reduced risk of carbon monoxide. Because there are no flames as with gas, electric is cleaner and typically safer. Costs, however, can be an issue in comparison. Rising electricity bills are prompting many homeowners to consider the switch from electric back to gas.

Square footage of the home, efficiency ratings, and warranty are all considerations when selecting a furnace. The government standard set in 1992 established a minimum efficiency rating for gas furnaces to be 78%. This means that a minimum of 78% of the gas is converted into heat. Many models of gas furnaces are currently running at 96% and higher. Energy star ratings for some makes and models have even been rated near 98%.

After the decision of which to use, natural gas or an electric furnace has been made, there are still many questions left. The price of the unit itself should not be the only major deciding factor for which model furnace to purchase. Consulting a competent installation professional will help to answer some of these important questions. To be sure that the furnace chosen for the home is the best option, consulting a reputable dealer is a must. The Better Business Bureau is a great first step in choosing a professional. Also be sure that the company chosen installs the models of furnaces researched, and that the company is licensed, bonded, and insured. The choice of furnace and often many appliances is an investment that can last over 20 years, so it is important to do your research before making a commitment to either.
